Floyd Mayweather believes unified super lightweight champion Terence Crawford is the current best pound-for-pound boxer in the world right now.
Ever since former WBA, WBO and IBF light heavyweight champion Andre Ward hung up the gloves following successive wins against Sergey Kovalev, there has been a lot of debate as to who is now the pound-for-pound king.
Middleweight kingpin Gennady Golovkin, who holds four versions of the world title, is one of the main contenders, having most recently fought to a contentious split-decision draw in an enthralling encounter against rival Saul 'Canelo' Alvarez.
Floyd Mayweather has revealed who he thinks is the current pound-for-pound best boxer
Golovkin's showdown with Canelo was supposed to be an indicator as to who was the world's best fighter. But the fight was spoiled after the judges returned their scorecards. Adelaide Bird's wide card in favour of the Mexican fighter particularly drew criticism with the result leaving more questions than answers.
Two-weight world champion and current WBO super featherweight holder Vasly Lomachenko, who captured his first world title in just his fourth professional fight, is also highly regarded after he inflicted Guillermo Rigondeaux's first-ever defeat earlier this month.
However Lomachenko, who has drawn comparisons to Mayweather for his slick evasive talents and quick hand speed, failed to impress the latter in his most recent win over his Cuban adversary.
Instead, Mayweather picked Crawford as someone who is more deserving to be spoken of in the same breath as him and as the No 1 fighter on the planet.
Middleweight kingpin Gennady Golovkin is considered one of the best fighter's on the planet
'The pound-for-pound top fighter in boxing right now is Terence Crawford,' Mayweather told FightHype.com. 'He doesn't have to be under my company to give a guy props. I'm not like that. If he's a free agent, I would love to work with him, if he's free.
'I know what I can do to take him to that next level. Hell of a fighter, he's one of the guys that – he's a motherf****r. He reminds me of a young Floyd Mayweather. He can fight his a** off. That's what I like about him.'

Crawford, who unified his WBC and WBO straps with the IBF and WBA ones after knocking out the dangerous Julius Indongo in August, is undefeated in his 32 fights.
The 30-year-old is a two-weight world champion, having captured world titles in both the lightweight and super lightweight divisions.
Vasyl Lomachenko is also regarded as one of the most talented boxers in the world
But Mayweather was not impressed with Lomachenko's recent win over Guillermo Rigondeaux
The American vacated his WBO title in October to move up to the welterweight division amid rumours he would receive a title shot at the WBO belt Jeff Horn holds after he defeated Manny Pacquaio and then successfully defended it against Gary Corcoran.
He is expected to meet the Australian in the early part of next year with Top Rank promoter Bob Arum reportedly planning an April meeting.
Arum recently claimed the winner of a potential Horn vs Crawford bout could face six-weight world champion Manny Pacquiao in a huge blockbuster fight later on in 2018.
Instead, Mayweather has claimed Terence Crawford is the current pound-for-pound king

Strickland Metals shares jump 39% ahead of drilling base metal target near DeGrussa
Strickland Metals Ltd (ASX:STK) shares surged 39% today ahead of its maiden drilling program at the Doolgunna Project, which will include a diamond drilling program that is likely to begin by the end of this month.
As a part of the program, a minimum of four diamond holes will be drilled to a depth of 500 metres to test a VMS target similar to the nearby DeGrussa deposit of Sandfire Resources (ASX:SFR).
Heritage survey[hhmc]
Exploration activity has recommenced on the Doolgunna Project following completion of heritage surveys to allow land access to areas where the company wishes to complete exploration drilling.
The target for drilling is a compelling base metal prospect that exhibits geological characteristics that are interpreted to be similar to Sandfire Resources’ DeGrussa deposit about 30 kilometres to the east of the project.

Provincial Government discussions
Pan Asia was recently invited by the chief executive officer of the Phang Nga Provincial Administrative Organisation (PAO), a Phang Nga Provincial Government coordinating body, to represent PAM and the Reung Kiet Lithium Project.
The meeting was also attended by the head of Phang Nga Provincial Industry along with the representatives of the Phang Nga Provincial Public Works and Town Planning Office.
Phang Nga Provincial Industry head has been appointed by the Phang Nga governor as chairman of the Phang Nga New Town Planning Committee.
During the meeting, the chairman of the committee conveyed its support for the Reung Kiet Lithium Project.
PAO wants to ensure that the requirements of the Reung Kiet project are incorporated into the town planning committee’s zoning plans to ensure that the project can progress once exploration and feasibility results prove positive.
“Can bring opportunities”
PAM managing director Paul Lock said: “We have been working hard in Phang Nga province and we are very happy with the positive reception that the Reung Kiet Lithium Project is receiving from the Phang Nga Provincial Government and surrounding communities.
“Reung Kiet is strategically located and based on peer feasibility work the project is positioned to potentially be one of the lowest-cost suppliers of lithium chemicals in the global peer group.
“This is a project that can bring substantial opportunities and value to Phang Nga and Thailand.”
Pan Asia is planning its second Reung Kiet drilling program with expectations that this will begin in the coming months following the conclusion of the current Khao Soon drilling program.
Potential cost curve leader
Reung Kiet is a hard rock project with lepidolite rich pegmatites chiefly composed of quartz, albite and lepidolite with minor cassiterite and tantalite as well as other accessory minerals including some rare earth.
Lepidolite does not require roasting and has a suite of by-products which are recoverable at the concentrator and processing stages of the flow sheet.
